Gossip!!!

This morning, I would also like to blog about a very common issue and sin that is saturated in our country today, GOSSIP.

Gossip can be defined as conversations among people pertinent to that of another person or other people that are usually labelled negative and seek to destroy the party being discussed. Additionally, Casual or unconstrained conversation or reports about other people, typically involving details that are not confirmed as being true.

The word of God clearly tells us that we as God's people are not supposed to back bite others. Gossip starts when one person tells another person something about somebody else, and they usually tell that person "do not tell anyone else" but lo and behold, that person informs another and it continues. What fun is there in gossiping? Of Course, there are some people who are entertainers of what we call "bef" in our local language, but does this form of entertainment educate, edify or add to your spiritual construction? If it does do that, then Jesus would not have condemned gossiping.

Look at a few bible verses pertinent to that of gossiping:
James 4: 11-12 Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?

Proverbs 11: 13 Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets, but he who is trustworthy in spirit keeps a thing covered.

Romans 16: 17-18 I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.

Therefore, through this verses, the message is quite lucid that we abstain from all forms of gossiping.

What is even more aggravating, is the fact that there are gossipers in the church whose main aim is to create problems. The church should be the one setting the example, and so there should be no group of gossipers sitting in a church, for they are undertaking a mission that is strictly against the word of God. Some persons even refuse to enter churches because of the gossipers sitting in the church. What does this tell you? Do you think that Jesus is pleased when we slander one another and create problems? No!! He is not!!!

Therefore, I urge all of us who are reading this blog to abstain from all forms of gossip because it is not so much of an entertaining activity!!! Let us strive to be more like Christ than being different from him!!!
